Weight loss surgery (gastric bypass)
Obesity is a serious problem, growing at an increasingly alarming rate worldwide. Because of this global epidemic, there are now surgical procedures available that can help people lose unwanted and unhealthy excess weight. One of these procedures is Gastric Bypass surgery, also sometimes called a “stomach staple”.
In modern medicine, surgeons and specialists consider this operation the benchmark for excellence. The surgery is successful because of its scientific ingenuity. During the operation, a very small stomach is created, from which the remainder of the stomach is divided and separated. The small intestine is then surgically attached to the new stomach, allowing the lower stomach to now be bypassed. If other methods for losing weight have proven unsuccessful, then weight loss surgery through a gastric bypass is something to consider.
Benefits of a Gastric Bypass Operation
The biggest benefit that can come about through a gastric bypass operation is lost weight. That said, before even considering this operation a patient must have already exhausted all other efforts in attempting to lose weight. Most doctors will not even consider a patient for this surgery unless they are overweight by at least 100 pounds.
