Rhinoplasty - Nose Job
Rhinoplasty is cosmetic surgery of the nose. Most often done for cosmetic reasons, rhinoplasty is also sometimes necessary after an accident in which the nose is damaged, or when there is a defect or other deformity that requires correction in order to ease breathing.
What Rhinoplasty Can Do
Rhinoplasty can reshape the nose dramatically or subtly, making changes to improve the balance of the face and create a more proportionate nose. The nose can be reduced in size or increased by building up the structure; the tip or the bridge can be refined; the nostrils may be narrowed; or the nose may be lifted to change the angle to the upper lip.
Types of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty can be divided into two main categories: open and closed. In a closed rhinoplasty, any incisions necessary are made inside the nostrils to be completely invisible. In contrast, an open rhinoplasty requires an incision on the outside of the nose – usually in the crease between the nose and the upper lip. A surgeon will always aim to keep the scars as invisible as possible, and most surgeons will only use an open rhinoplasty if the surgery is complex and requires the greater working space that this method offers.
