Laser Hair Removal Treatment and Procedures Continued

Potential Risks and Disadvantages

The biggest risk with laser hair removal is that, because it is such a new technology, its results are still not conclusive. No long-term data exists which suggests whether or not it's completely safe. Response rates and re-growth rates still do not exist because of laser hair technology's infancy. Hopefully, as time continues to pass and this technology continues to increase in use, more data supporting its benefits will begin to appear.

One of the other potential problems with laser hair removal is that regulations regarding its practice are variable among states. Over time, this has led to inconstancies among practitioners in the industry. If the procedure is performed incorrectly, all sorts of problems can appear, from long term skin damage as a result of burning, to the re-growth or partial re-growth of removed hair. There have been cases where improper treatment has caused lesions, burns, and skin discolorations that have lasted several months.

One of the best policies to adopt prior to selecting a laser hair practitioner is to have a talk with someone who's had the procedure done by that practitioner. Word of mouth with this procedure goes a long way. Verifying a practitioner's success rate prior to the procedure is critical.
