Laser Hair Removal Treatment and Procedures
One of the newer cosmetic improvements offered today is the process of laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is when light via a specified wavelength is delivered from a laser hand-piece into the skin.
In the skin of the head, the laser then targets the pigment in the hair. This causes damage to the hair follicle, while sparing the remaining hair tissues in the area. In terms of hair removal services, laser hair removal is the youngest, and therefore potentially not the best method to employ if absolute results are required and safety is taken into consideration. While there are studies that demonstrate results through of using this service, most data collected in laser hair removal is still inconclusive. With that said, laser hair removal can work successfully for many people.
Skin and Hair Color Considerations
One of the biggest considerations before using laser hair removal is the skin color of a potential patient and the color of their hair. Simply put, the lighter the patient's skin, the easier it is to use laser services for hair removal. For people with light or fair skin, fewer treatments will be required; in addition, results will be obtained faster because of the fair pigment of the skin. People with darker skin should not count themselves out though. People with darker skin can use laser hair services for removal, but they should know that results will be slower because of the necessity of more treatments.
With regards to hair color, however, dark hair is easier to treat than light or red hair. As a matter of fact, blond and red hair is extremely difficult to treat in comparison to dark hair because it contains the pigment Pheomelanin. This pigment is extremely difficult to penetrate through laser. On the contrary, Eumelanin is easily penetrable and is quite pervasive in black and brown hair.
