Collagen Injection Treatment and Procedures Continued

One of the major setbacks of collagen use is that it can cause allergic reactions in some people. Because of this, sensitivity tests are always given prior to the first treatment to ensure that the patient can handle the injections. Amino acids located at the end of the protein strand are sometimes removed from the collagen to lessen its ability to cause these allergic reactions.

Among the different cattle collagens, there are Zyderm, Zyplast, and Resoplast. Human collagens include Autologen and Dermalogen. Each vary slightly from another in how long they last or how painful they are. Researching the side effects prior to use is crucial if you are planning collagen injections.

Pre and Post Injection

Prior to injection, the area where the injection will take place should be numbed at least 60 minutes before the scheduled procedure. Often Lidocaine is used, after which the collagen is then injected into the same area. After the procedure has taken place, it is possible that swelling will occur in the injected area. This is quite common and should not be of concern. It can even be reduced by placing ice on the injected area for 15-30 minutes.

Another potential problem is bruising in the area where the needle pierced the skin. The same ice therapy can help it if this problem occurs. What most patients need to know is that, in most cases, there are no problems and the patient looks normal within an hour after the procedure. Collagen injections are safe and fairly common. By taking the steps prescribed by your physician, you'll see results in no time.
