Breast augmentation - mammoplasty

Breast Augmentation, also called mammoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to change the size and shape of the breasts. While there are many reasons that people elect to have breast augmentation, most center around self-image issues and the desire to enhance appearance; however, breast augmentation may also be performed on patients who have had breast surgery and would like to regain a more normal appearance.

Reasons for Breast Augmentation (Mammoplasty)

While the decision to have a breast augmentation surgery is usually very personal, most patients do give similar reasons for undergoing the procedure. For some, they feel their breast size is simply too small and would like natural-looking fullness without having to resort to padded bras and other external means. For others, a pregnancy that enlarged their breasts and stretched out the skin has now ended and left the breasts shrunken but sagging. A breast augmentation could replace the fullness lost with the pregnancy and give a more perky shape.

While no two breasts are the exact same size, some people have marked differences in the size of their two breasts and this causes them embarrassment, leading them to seek a way to balance out the size. Some breast surgeries also require removing a great deal of breast tissue, and a breast augmentation can help recreate a normal appearance.
