Botox
For thousands of cosmetic surgery patients, Botox Cosmetic (Botulinum neurotoxin) has come to represent the fountain of youth. Botox's ability to make facial lines disappear has turned it into the most requested cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S.
Despite the fact that the results of Botox treatments are not permanent, many patients return to their physician again and again to have Botox injections. Why? What is Botox?
Botulinum neurotoxin is the bacteria commonly known as Botulism. There are eight strains of Botulinum, five of which are associated with humans. Medical uses for Botulinum were hypothesized as far back as 1822 and Types A and B Botulinum have been used therapeutically since the mid-1980s.
Botox is produced in a crystalline form and prepared with saline by the attending physician. The liquid is merely a means of assisting the injection of the Botox substance and it is the amount of Botox injected that produces the cosmetic improvement.
